Apart of Elgon Mountain is an easy mount to climb. Those who wish to climb should be reasonably fit, but no specialized equipment or skills are required to get to the summits and the Mountain is not very high that there is a serious risk of the height-related illnesses, which usually cause trouble to climbers on the higher slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro or Kenya Mountain. Mount Elgon can be climbed during any period of the year. The best months to climb are November and December given the fact that it is at this time that the flowers for the highland are in bloom. Traditionally, the most famous place on Elgon Mountain is the Sipi falls where the Sipi River rises on the higher slopes of Elgon Mountain before cascading down the foothill more than 8 kilometers to make a series of four beautiful waterfalls resulting in a 99 meter drop at a height of 1.775 meters outside the small trading centre of Sipi. The Sipi are 60 kilometers from Mbale by road. The highly recommended clothings are the warm ones.
DAY 1: ARRIVAL AT THE AIRPORT:
A tour company representative from Bwindi Safaris Adventure will take you and depending on the time you have reached, you can straight away proceed to Jinja or you may have an overnight in Kampala. If you reach when it is morning, you are encouraged to change currency that real day as you get used to the city. You can tour some exciting areas in Kampala or Jinja town with the tour guide depending on where you may have arrived. The exciting areas in Jinja may include; The source of the Nile, Bujagali falls, Dinner and overnight will be at Jinja Nile Resort.
DAY 2: JINJA:
After taking breakfast very early in the morning, movers will enjoy visiting Mabira forest for an interesting forest like, have a picnic and also have lunch. The group will then find pleasure in traditional dances by a local women-dancing group. On this day, there are various options for example boat rides, floating on the robust and great Nile. In the evening, come back for dinner and overnight at Jinja Nile Resort.
DAY 3: JINJA to MOUNTAIN ELGON:
After taking breakfast in the morning, visitors will en route to Mbale, Eastern Uganda and depart for Mountain Elgon. You will then be taken to Sipi falls. After having lunch, move to the falls and come back to your camp near Sipi falls to have dinner and overnight.
DAY 4: MOUNTAIN HIKINGA, part of River Sipi:
Have breakfast and then continue the move following the Kapkwata Trail. A scenic like through the bamboo, heath and moorlands leads you to the Piswa Camp at 2850 meters. Breakfast, lunch plus supper will all be in the mountains.
DAY 5: MOUNTAIN HIKING:
Move up to the verge of the calderas via beautiful columns of Labelia Elgonensis. Tour hot springs plus Suam gorge prior to descending to the Hunters Cave Camp 3850 metres.
DAY 6: MOUNTAIN HIKING:
Have breakfast and climb up to the top of the calderas to the Wagagai summit
at 4321 meters. Thereafter, climb down through the Jackson peak and the Jackson pool to have a night at Mude Camp at 3500 meters.
DAY 7: ELGON to KAMPALA:
Early in the morning, descend through the Sasa trail to Budadiri, then proceed to Mbale town. From there, continue to Uganda?s capital for your leaving. Your last dinner and overnight will be at Speke Hotel Kampala.
DAY 8: DEPARTURE:
The visitors may opt to tour areas they did not visit when they arrived. Among them may be the Uganda Museum, Kasubi Tombs, National Theatre to but arts and crafts, plus many others under the help of the driver or guide.
However, this will depend on the time you are supposed to leave. Later, you will be taken to the Airport at the time you please to.
There are two kinds of Uganda safaris; some opt for luxury safari (lodges or hotels) and other opt for Budget safaris (camping and simple accommodation).
